What is Eyelid Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)?

With age, some structural changes occur in our eyelids. While skin sagging and fat herniation occur in our upper eyelids, bags are observed in our lower eyelids. In addition to creating some aesthetic concerns, this developing situation also brings with it complaints such as a functionally tired appearance and a narrowing of the visual field, especially due to the excess skin on the upper eyelid obstructing the field of vision.

Eyelid aesthetics, or what we call medically Blepharoplasty, are surgeries we perform to give a more aesthetic and functional appearance to the eyelids whose structure is damaged. It is possible to perform our surgery under local anesthesia. Approximately 1 week after the surgery, the aesthetically placed stitches are removed and the patient can return to his daily life.

What Should Be Considered After Eyelid Aesthetics?

An average of 1 week is needed for tissue healing after eyelid aesthetics, although it varies from person to person. Swelling and redness on the lids immediately after surgery are considered normal and ice application is recommended. It is recommended not to let water touch the wound areas until the stitches are removed for about a week after the surgery, and to use the pomade and medications recommended by your doctor.

Are Eyelid Surgeries Performed Only for Aesthetic Purposes?

While the appearance of our eyelids has an aesthetic importance, it also has a functional importance for our eye health. We need a functionally completely healthy and compatible eyelid system, especially for the healthy functioning of the system that ensures the flow of tears from our eye surface to our eye spring and from there to our nose. With eyelid surgeries, we can correct our damaged and sagging eyelids while also eliminating this complaint, such as watering, which negatively affects our daily lives.

With the eyelid surgeries we perform on our patients with drooping eyelids (Ptosis), we not only correct the asymmetrical appearance, but also expand our field of vision and obtain functionally healthier eyelids.
