ReLEx SMILE Laser Eye Treatment

ReLEx SMILE PRO is a third-generation method developed in laser eye treatment. With this modern technology, visual impairments such as myopia and astigmatism can be corrected in a non-invasive way. The ReLEx SMILE PRO procedure is entirely guided by laser and does not require the flap (cap) technique used in traditional laser surgeries. This results in a more comfortable experience and a lower risk of complications.

Pre-Treatment Preparation for ReLEx SMILE

• Soft contact lens users should stop wearing lenses at least 14 days before treatment.

• Rigid (oxygen-permeable) lens users should stop 4 weeks prior, and night lens users 6 weeks prior.

• Omega 3-6-9 supplements (fish oil-based) are recommended to improve tear quality.

• No eye makeup on the day of the procedure; discontinue all makeup at least one day before.

• If there are false eyelashes or eyelash tint, they should be removed at least 4 weeks before treatment.

• Avoid using perfume, aftershave, or face creams on the day of the procedure.

• Wear comfortable, cotton, lint-free clothing.

• Bring sunglasses and a hat as eyes may be sensitive to light after the procedure.

• Do not come alone—driving afterward will not be safe.

• Carefully read and sign the informed consent form on the treatment day.
   

How Is ReLEx SMILE Laser Eye Surgery Performed?

1. Preparation: Special clothing, a cap, and shoe covers are provided.

2. Anesthesia and Laser Application: The eye is numbed with drops. A thin lenticule is created inside the cornea using a laser.

3. Lenticule Removal: The lenticule is removed through a small (<4 mm) incision, reshaping the cornea and correcting the refractive error.

4. Medication Application: Antibiotic drops are applied, and the eye is rinsed with serum.

5. Recovery Area: Post-treatment, medications are given in a recovery room along with usage instructions.

6. Final Check: An eye examination is performed before discharge.

The laser procedure takes about 15 minutes. Total time at the clinic is typically 2 to 2.5 hours.
 

Post-Treatment Considerations for ReLEx SMILE

• Temporary tearing, stinging, or headaches may occur in the first few hours.

• Blurred vision may persist for the first 24 hours but will gradually improve.

• Avoid rubbing the eyes for at least 2 weeks.

• Protect eyes from UV rays; wear sunglasses for the first 2 weeks.

• Avoid makeup for the first 3 days, and apply carefully afterward.

• Avoid dusty and smoky environments for 2 weeks.

• Sauna, tanning, and sunbathing are not recommended in the first 2 weeks.

• Avoid sports for 3 days and swimming for at least 2 weeks.

• Use a protective nighttime eye shield in the first few days.
   

When Are ReLEx SMILE Results Visible?

Healing varies from person to person. Most patients can return to work within 1–2 days. Visual acuity typically improves over several weeks, with final results usually settling between 4–6 months. Temporary side effects such as glare, halos, or dry eye may occur in the early days.

Over 98% of patients achieve results that meet their expectations, and fewer than 2% require additional treatment. Such cases are closely monitored by experienced specialists.
